Benefits Enrollment & Eligibility Overview
New Hire Enrollment Period
New hires have 60 days to make their benefits selections in INFORMS.
- INFORMS Path: Employee Self Service | Benefits Details | Benefits Enrollment
- You can make as many changes as you want during those 60 days.
- Print a confirmation once you make your selections for future reference.
Benefits Start Dates
- Medical benefit (AvMed): starts on day 1 of employment (hire date).
- Coverage is retroactive, and premiums missed are retroactive as well.
- Other benefits: start the first of the month after 60 days from hire date. Example: If hired 7/1/24, benefits start 10/1/24.
Employee Eligibility
- Full-time employees.
- Part-time employees working 60+ hours per pay period.
- Variable Hour Employees (VHE) averaging 60 hours within 26 pay periods.

- Spouse or Domestic Partner
- Disabled Child*
- Legal Guardianship
- Adult Dependent Child*
- Child, Stepchild, Grandchild*

Life Events & Changes
- Change in Status: must be reported within 45 days(60 days for newborns) of the qualifying life event in INFORMS.
- Dependents for health insurance are added in INFORMS.
- Beneficiaries for life insurance are set up on lifebenefits.com.
Benefits Administration Unit (BAU)
Benefit changes, including coverage issues, life events, and plan corrections, are handled by the Benefits Administration Unit (BAU). Please refer to the Benefits Guide provided at onboarding for full details.
